Lawcus has gotten quite a bit of buzz as the hot new practice management system on the market. It’s typically more affordable but just as robust as some of the original players. It has a great deal of potential and is ever evolving to serve its clients. But before you take the plunge, here are just a few things you should consider:

  1. AutomationsWe love automations. We love to help law firms automate their practice areas so that they can reclaim their time, and well, their life. Lawcus really shines in automations. You can build out beautiful workflows that help your firm run like a well oiled machine. But, you have to build them. They do not come this way. This is often where folks get frustrated. They want to automate a questionnaire for an estate plan and cannot figure out how or what is next. Take a breath. If you invest in Lawcus you need to either invest in a considerable amount of time to learn how to build it or invest the money for someone to do it for you (yes we do this) but either way bear in mind that Lawcus will not come custom to your automations.
  2. Client PortalThe client portal is great for keeping all client communication in one place. Not only that, but you can assign them task. That is a super nice feature when you are always waiting on clients to send you documents. You can also leave links for them to leave a review, read more about your firm or schedule another appointment. It’s highly customizable as well – so if you want to add something or remove something you generally can.
  3. Client CommunicationOften times clients go through periods of waiting. The number one bar complaint is lack of client communication. Typically the only “update” an attorney has to give is that there is no update. Either you are waiting on opposing counsel, that USPTO, a deadline or document processing. There is a great deal of hurry up and wait in law. You can leverage Lawcus to update your clients automatically, even if there is no update. How’s that? You can place your clients in stages that sends them automatic emails letting them know there is nothing new on their case but also take the opportunity to tell them more about their type of case or even cross sell, if appropriate. This feature is game changing for keeping in touch with your clients without having to manually type the emails and update them.
  4. ReviewsI’m well aware that there are many companies out there that will help you collect reviews for your firm. Reviews are great for growing and are often considered when a client is looking to hire an attorney. Lawcus can actually do a lot of this heavy lifting for you. You can create an automation that asks clients for reviews, follow ups and might even alert your staff to personally reach out. You can build this out to be compliant with your state bar rules. That’s the beauty of the customization.

Overall, we’ve found Lawcus to be a true game changer. You can automate much more than the OGs like Clio, Practice Panther or MyCase, but you have to be willing to embrace the automations and build them, or have them built. Often times folks have a hard time letting go of the paper on their desk and it’s their human behaviors that stop them from truly utilizing all that Lawcus has to offer. We are here to say let go. It only gets better.
